Hardy County Jail Roster Overview
Hardy County does not run a public sheriff-hosted jail roster. The official county law-enforcement material says people awaiting hearing, awaiting trial, or serving jail time are confined at the regional jail in Augusta. That facility is Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, operated by the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation. For Hardy County inmate records, the practical custody search is WVDCR's regional jail database, not a local page from the sheriff's office.
The roster should not be treated as a full criminal case file. It helps locate a person who is in regional jail custody and may show facility, status, admission, offense, bond, and photo clues when available. WVDCR warns that location, release date, status, and sentencing information can change quickly. A court record controls formal charges, hearings, dispositions, and sentences. If a person has moved from regional jail to prison, the search path changes to the WVDCR prison and supervision locator.
Use the Hardy County Inmate Roster
The fastest route depends on timing. A same-day arrest may appear first on Daily Incarcerations by county. A person already processed into current regional jail custody is searched by last name in Regional Jail Offender Search. If no result appears, check spelling, transport timing, release timing, sentence transfer, federal custody, ICE custody, or protected record limits before assuming the person was never booked.
- Open WV Daily Incarcerations and choose Hardy County for new or recent admissions.
- Open WV Regional Jail Offender Search for current regional jail custody.
- Enter at least the first three letters of the last name, then add first name if the result list is broad.
- Confirm that the institution is Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility for a Hardy County regional jail hold.
- Use the visible spelling, facility, admission date, and charge text to search court records or ask the clerk for copies.
- Call Potomac Highlands at (304) 496-1275 when a release, housing, visit, or urgent custody issue must be confirmed.
Hardy County Roster Search Fields
WVDCR's current regional jail search has a narrow form. The last-name field is required, and the first-name field is optional. Daily Incarcerations works differently because it uses a county dropdown and date-based admissions list. Both tools carry WVDCR's warning that the information is public, updated regularly, and subject to quick change.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Yes | Enter at least the first three letters of the last name. |
| First Name | Text | No | Optional narrowing field for common names. |
| Search | Button | Yes to submit | Submission means the user agrees to WVDCR terms and disclaimer. |
WV Daily Incarcerations uses a county dropdown, including Hardy County, to show daily admissions by institution.
The daily view is useful when the person was booked recently and family members do not yet know the exact roster spelling.
Hardy County Inmate Profile Fields
The public search form does not list every profile field before a search, and no live individual profile was used for this build. The safe approach is to describe common WVDCR custody fields without promising that every record will show each item. The jail profile is a lead to the custody record. The clerk's court record remains the source for filed charges, amendments, disposition, and sentencing.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | The name as WVDCR stores it, which may differ from court filings or ID documents. |
| Facility or institution | The regional jail or correctional facility associated with the person. |
| Custody status | A current-status clue that WVDCR says may change quickly. |
| Admission or booking detail | Recent county or institution admission context when available through Daily Incarcerations. |
| Charges or offenses | Booking-side offense text that should be checked against court records. |
| Mugshot or photo | May appear when available, but the public search form does not guarantee a photo. |
| Release date | A date or status that must be confirmed because roster data can lag. |
Hardy County Custody Levels
A Hardy County arrest can touch several systems. Regional jail search covers pretrial and jail-sentence custody at Potomac Highlands. The WVDCR prison locator covers active prison, parole, and supervision status. The BOP locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS covers certain immigration detention searches by A-number or biographical data. West Virginia VINE is a custody and case notification tool, not the primary roster.
| Custody Question | Best Channel | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Current regional jail custody | WVDCR Regional Jail Offender Search | People currently in West Virginia regional jail custody. |
| Recent Hardy County booking | WVDCR Daily Incarcerations | Daily admissions selected by county and institution. |
| Sentenced prison or supervision | WVDCR prison search | Active prison, parole, and active supervision records. |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator | Federal inmates from 1982 to present. |
| Immigration detention | ICE ODLS | ICE custody and certain CBP custody over 48 hours. |
Hardy County Jail Facility
Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility is the main facility for Hardy County jail custody. It is a regional jail and correctional facility, not a Hardy County-owned jail. WVDCR lists it as serving Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Mineral, and Pendleton counties. FY2025 report figures list rated population at 312, average daily count at 240, admissions at 1,428, and releases at 1,347.

Hardy County Booking Process
Booking is split between local arrest and state regional jail intake. A Hardy County deputy, town officer, state trooper, or another officer may arrest the person locally. Depending on the warrant, timing, paperwork, and safety needs, the person may go through a local processing point or be transported directly to Potomac Highlands. Intake at the regional jail can include identity confirmation, search and property inventory, fingerprints, booking photo, medical and mental-health screening, classification, and housing assignment.
New records may not appear right away. WVDCR says roster data is updated regularly, but it may change quickly and may not show a true current location, release date, or status. A search can miss a very new arrest if transport has not occurred, the spelling differs, the person was released quickly, or the case is sealed or protected. A first appearance and bond review then move through magistrate or court process, where release type, bond, no-bond holds, and court dates are controlled.
- Booking
- The jail intake record created after arrest or transport.
- Classification
- The facility review used to assign housing and security level.
- Detainer
- A hold from another agency or jurisdiction that can delay release.
- Capias
- A court-issued arrest order, often tied to missed court or noncompliance.
Hardy County Visitation Rules
Visitation for Hardy County inmates held at Potomac Highlands follows WVDCR's facility rules. The posted PHRJ rules describe non-contact visits only. Appointments for Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday must be scheduled one day in advance by calling (304) 496-7057 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Visits are first-call, first-served and cannot be scheduled at the window. Each offender is allowed one visit per month, with either two adults or one adult and two children in the visit.
| Day | Facility Schedule | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | Call for Tuesday appointment | Scheduling |
| Tuesday | Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. | Non-contact |
| Wednesday | Call for Thursday appointment | Scheduling |
| Thursday | Visitation begins at 12:00 p.m. | Non-contact |
| Friday | Call for Saturday appointment | Scheduling |
| Saturday | Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. | Non-contact |
| Sunday | No visitation | Closed |
Visitors must arrive at least 15 minutes early, register on entry, and provide valid photo ID such as a driver's license, DMV photo ID, or passport. Minors need a birth certificate and must be with a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult with the required signed and notarized juvenile visitation form. Facility notaries cannot notarize that form. The shift supervisor decides dress-code issues.
Request Hardy County Jail Records
No Hardy County sheriff online FOIA form was located in official sources. Under West Virginia Code § 29B-1-3, a public-records request should go to the custodian and describe the record with reasonable specificity. For a booking sheet, mugshot, housing record, or jail custody item, direct the request to WVDCR or Potomac Highlands. For an arrest report or local incident report, contact the arresting agency, such as the Hardy County Sheriff's Office. For formal charging papers and hearing dates, contact the magistrate or circuit clerk.
- Use the person's full name and date of birth or approximate age.
- Include arrest date, booking date, facility, and arresting agency if known.
- Name the exact record sought, such as booking sheet, bond sheet, arrest report, mugshot, or court filing.
- Expect redactions for juvenile, victim-identifying, medical, sealed, expunged, or investigative material.
WV FOIA allows reasonable reproduction fees. The research notes that reproduction costs are different from search or retrieval man-hour charges. Ask the custodian how copies are priced before requesting a large file.
Hardy County Search Problems
A missing result does not always mean the person was never arrested. A very new Hardy County arrest may still be in transport or intake. A last name may be entered with a different spelling, suffix, hyphen, or maiden name. The person may have posted bond before a family member searched. The record may also sit in a different system because the person was moved to prison, held on a federal matter, detained by immigration authorities, or protected by a sealed, juvenile, or expunged-record rule.
Work through the channels in order. Check Daily Incarcerations by Hardy County for recent admissions, then search the regional jail roster by last name. If custody is urgent, call Potomac Highlands and ask for current status without expecting legal advice. If the roster shows charge text, search magistrate records by name or case number and contact the clerk for documents that are not online. If the person was sentenced, use the WVDCR prison search. For federal or ICE custody, use the federal locator or ODLS and, when needed, contact the proper federal district or agency.
Hardy County VINE and App Checks
West Virginia VINE can provide custody and case notification after a person is found. It is useful for alerts, but it is not a replacement for the regional jail roster or court clerk. The statewide West Virginia Sheriff Connect app exists in Apple and Google app stores and advertises jail information and public-safety updates. The research did not confirm a Hardy County app-only inmate roster, warrant search, or booking feed. Current Hardy County inmate records still route through WVDCR and the court system.
WVDCR's offender search hub groups the regional jail, daily incarcerations, prison, and escapee or absconder lookups.
The hub is a useful starting point when the correct custody level is not clear.
Note: Confirm custody with Potomac Highlands before scheduling a visit, sending funds, or relying on a same-day release entry.
